Broken-link protection

Broken-link protection checks each code’s destination once a day, and after three failing days in a row sends scanners to your fallback page instead of an error, then switches back automatically after two healthy checks.

How the check works

Once a day we request each active code’s destination:

What counts as healthy or failing

ResultCounts as
2xx or 3xxHealthy
401, 403, 429Unknown (not broken)
404, 410, 5xx, DNS failure, TLS failure, timeoutFailing

What happens after three failing days

  1. We safety-check your fallback address again.
  2. The code switches to fallback.
  3. Scanners go to your fallback URL, or, if you haven’t set one, to a simple StandfastQR page saying the page is temporarily unavailable, with your optional message.
  4. We email you.

After two healthy checks in a row, the code switches back to your destination automatically and we email you again.

Setting a fallback

Open a code and set a fallback URL (for example your homepage) and an optional short message, such as “Our menu is being updated. Call us on …”.

Frequently asked questions

Which packs include it?

Business and Agency. It’s on by default for their codes, and you can switch it off per code or for the whole account.

Why might I switch it off?

If your destination blocks automated visitors or certain countries, our checker could see it as down when it isn’t. Switch protection off for that code.

Does a 403 or 429 count as broken?

No. Bot protection often returns 401, 403 or 429, so we treat those as unknown, not broken.
